World War 1

During WW1 much of the voluntary humanitarian aid was provided by the  Order of St John / St John Ambulance  and  British Red Cross  working together as a Joint War Committee.     However, there were occasions and specific undertakings when each organisation worked independently.      So many aspects of the work carried out by ‘St John’ members during WW1 could be looked at but in the Museum I have chosen to highlight the St John Ambulance Brigade Hospital which was based at Étaples, France and the input from the island of Ireland.
